The Wat Bowonniwet Vihara
We will conduct our next At Homes on November 22nd, at The Wat Bowonniwet Vihara.
We are very lucky to have this opportunity to visit this Royal Monastery that plays such an important role in Thai Royal history.
King Mongkut was abbot in this temple from 1836 to 1851 and established here the Dhammayut Order.
In 1956, according toThai tradition, the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej was ordained and stayed some time in Wat Bowonniwet Vihara.
Venerable Kantasilo, a native of the US state of Indiana, received higher-ordination with H.H.Somdet Phra Nayanasamvara, at Wat Bowonniwet Vihara in 1980. He was blessed by a close relationship with His Holiness from the beginning, serving him as a personal aid. Later, after His Holiness received the title of Supreme Patriarch from His Majesty the King in 1989, he was appointed by the Patriarch as an assistant secretary. Venerable Kantasilo holds a Master of Arts Degree in Thai Studies, is a translator, author and close friend of the NMV.
As Wat Bowonniwet Vihara is a very big Wat and filled with numerous treasures, the tour will take 2:30 up to 3 hours.
As this temple is a Royal Monastery, there are lots of activities around the year. If unfortunately such an event is scheduled on the same day as our visit they may cancel or postpone our tour at the very last minute. I sincerely hope that you understand and cooperate with us under such circumstances.
We have limited seat please confirm as soon as possible.
